The following is from a UK social forum, for those of us here who have these tyres fitted.

I attach a picture of my front tyre as it does look to me like the rubber is peeling off it and delaminating. I've taken it off the bike and put another new E3 on but if it happens again I will look to other manufacturers. Just thought I'd post this as a possible safety warning to check your tyres often.

The tyre had done just under 10k and still has a good depth of tread left. The date code is 10/10 which is well under the 5 year guarantee Dunlop say they offer.

I sent pictures to Dunlop as I thought they would be interested to learn from it but they only seemed interested in how to make it difficult for me to claim anything towards a new tyre. I told them I had already brought a new tyre and that wasn't the point of writing to them. Big companies eh!!? http://www.goldwingriders.co.uk/images/emoticons/baffled.gif

Had serious issues with Dunlop elite 3 tyre on the rear of my bike as did two other munsters. Pieces  lifting after only 6k. The tyres were given back

To the dealer who was sending them back to UK to be lab tested. Tried for four years to get some resolve on the matter to no avail. The rep was at both Cork and Dublin bike shows and to be fair he made contact as he said he would and new tyres were issued. I think Dunlop had a bad batch of tyres around 09/10. Fair play to Richard o Keeffe he had photos of the tyres and there was no contest. Ps  I'm on bridgestone since and can't fault them

Here's the latest update (23/07/2013) from the same G/W owner:

I did say to Dunlop that I would alert my fellow riders which is probably the reason I had a second email from them last night. They are back pedalling a bit but still insisting I take it back to the dealer who supplied it saying "should you feel the tyres condition is of a warrantable nature"  (that dealer is 120 miles from me) .

I would have thought this sort of potential defect would warrant them asking for it to be returned directly to Dunlop to be examined, especially as I told them I am not interested in claiming the cost of a replacement but it is the safety issue concerning me. They can't seem to get past worrying about the cost of a replacement.

Brian ,was that tyre on a 1500 or an 1800 ??? because the 1500 do not seem to be having any problems only the 1800 tyre , the 1500 is a bias belted tyre and the 1800 is a radial ,I have heard of problems with the 1800 , but the elite 3 is a great tyre on the 1500 ..

Hi Brian

Can i ever see it .  That's scary.  Ciarans question gives me a little reassurance if it's only 1800s, i'm on a 1500

Thanks mate.

Oh S**t!!  Now i'll be checking my tyres as i'm riding.  I had Roadrunners on a CX 500, they were magic.  They stuck to the road on cornering like they were made of velcro.  Thanks for letting me see the tyre mate.

I've had problems with Dunlop's on both a 1500 and an 1800. Bits falling off the tyres. Now I use bridgestone and have had no problems. It seems to be an issue in hot places .in my case in Morocco and Portugal.

I have recently had the same problem with the E3 fitted on my front wheel. Chunks of rubber are coming away along the join where the two halves of the tyre meet. Getting a new tyre in the morning and the old one is being sent back to Honda. Less than 10k miles and only two months old.
